FAQs

Initial Consultation

The initial consult allows your treating specialist to understand your symptoms, medical history, perform an examination and formulate a plan. This can include additional blood tests, radiology and endoscopic procedures to confirm or exclude a diagnosis. Treatment and follow-up plans may be necessary which are usually actioned in collaboration with your referring practitioner.

Fees

Procedures

  • At Sunshine Coast Gastroenterology, our belief is that the highest quality healthcare should be accessible for all. We strive to charge no gap for colonoscopy and other endoscopic procedures.

  • Certain situations may mean a procedure length that is significantly longer and/or more complex than standard. We refuse to compromise on quality so we do not overbook our lists. In these cases a small gap may be charged. This varies based on your health fund - the estimated cost is provided to you as a quote before the procedure.

  • For patients with Private Health cover, our Anaesthetists and Pathology providers usually charge no gap.

  • Uninsured patients are welcome, however the total out-of-pocket cost is significant. Most of this relates to the facility fee and ancillary charges (Pathologist, Anaesthetist etc.) and does not go to your Specialist.

Consultations

  • Fees vary depending on whether this is an initial or follow up consultation, complexity, the length of time and number of issues addressed.

    • Medicare (our national insurance scheme) rebates part of the cost

    • Private Health Insurers do not offer rebates for outpatient appointments in most cases

    • Inpatient consultations are on a ‘no gap’ basis for privately insured patients

  • Our doctors generally do not bulk bill. This is a conscious choice - we feel this approach means we are able to take our time and provide the highest quality service. We hate being rushed out the door - our assumption is so do you.

  • Please call or email reception to find out the expected fee for your consultation

COVID-19

  • We respect your right to decide, however, encourage all patients to be vaccinated when they are able to. This protects you, your family and friends and everyone involved in looking after your health.

  • If you have been experiencing any symptoms that may be consistent with COVID-19 please do not attend your appointment and notify us first.

  • If you have crossed a border or been in an area subject to restrictions as determined by the Queensland Government, please do not attend your appointment and call us first.
